Grab your hockey mask because it’s a Friday the 13th edition of the show. The stars are aligned as we witness yet another meeting of the mysterious Council. Well, ALMOST. Hey, two out of three isn’t bad, right?

Wes and Adrienne hit the ground running with no script and no filter as they discuss a new edition of the trading card scavenger hunt, ideas for extracurricular Scarefest events, pricing changes, and hotel talk. A fair amount of hotel talk. Plus, where else will you hear the term curmudgeon in everyday conversation? Right here, of course.

Also, we get a viewing of the first of the new Best of Scarefest short video segments and Joe Lewis pipes in with his review of the 2022 vampire film THE INVITATION.

 

2022 Weirdness in Review Scarefest 2023 E1

It’s the beginning of the New Year and we all know what that means. It’s time for the annual visit from John and Stacey Edwards and their summary of the oddest news stories of the past year. This is a show you do not want to miss.

Wes, John, and Stacey discuss the top 10 weirdest stories including a lethal VR headset, a ghostly patient in Argentina, and a ceremonial sacrifice gone wrong. We also get some archaic website talk and ponder the question of whether you can ride a drunk horse or not. The Return of the Scarefest TV Holiday Party SF 2022 E41

No one puts the H-O in a holiday party like the crew from Scarefest. Grab some eggnog and join Wes, Chad Harlan, Katie Followell and special guest Brian Bremer as they resurrect the party started by Wes, Ken Boggle, and Coyote Chris Sutton back in days gone by.

Wes, Katie, Chad, and Brian take us on a whirlwind tour of winter memories, New Year’s resolutions, and New Years eve superstitions. They also try not to alienate any of the sponsors while discussing Brian’s softcore film TEST TUBE TEENS FROM THE YEAR 2000. Plus, you don’t want to miss Brian’s spot-on impression of PUMPKINHEAD co-star Lance Henriksen.

Is it hot in here or is it just time for another meeting of the mysterious Council? That’s right, the all mighty Council is at it again tonight as Brandon, Adrienne, and Wes combine their collective horror related powers to bring us another barnburner of show.

This week’s topics include Scarefest making the top of the list of horror conventions, clever names for the line building protocols, line skipping dilemmas, and the merits of onsite events versus offsite events. Plus find out how Adrienne tried to shed the mortal coil an hour before the show. Bonus game: see if you can count how many times the term “line building” is used tonight.

Thrills and chills abound as Wes welcomes William Amyerich and Christina Kieffer from ATL Radio X, where they host a series on films, the paranormal, and music. William and Christina bring an interesting topic to Scarefest, the mysterious Men in Black. And not a Will Smith in sight.

The night starts off discussing where these strange men dressed all in black are aliens or a government agency but quickly moves into a conversation about cryptids and more otherworldly topics ranging from Bigfoot to the Mothman to odd sightings in Hellier, Kentucky. In our weekly feature, Joe Lewis turns back the hands of time to give us his review of the 2015 Christmas horror film KRAMPUS starring Adam Scott and Toni Collette.

Wes and co-host Chad Harlan take a walk on the paranormal side tonight as they host paranormal investigator and researcher, Allen Marston. Allen presented at Scarefest 2022 speaking about the infamous St Albans Sanatorium.

Allen takes a deep dive into the Sanatorium’s history, how he found out about it., and what to expect when visiting as well as upcoming events. He also discusses his history with the paranormal and Chad Harlan gives a little insight on how Allen helped him get started on the speaking circuit. Fun fact: Allen was once the Director of the National Paranormal Society.

Grab a hot cup of coffee and get ready for some good storytelling as Wes and co-host Claire Heaney welcome writer and host of the SHADOWS OF LEGEND podcast, Charles Romans. The SHADOW OF LEGENDS uses Charles’ journalistic background to help share the experiences of the strange and paranormal.

Wes, Claire, and Charles discuss the various aspects of the paranormal, how Charles got into podcasting, and who are the best people to teach others the best ghost hunting practices. Can’t get enough of serial killers? If so, definitely tune in this week as Wes and co-host Katie Followell welcome the multi-talented Jeff Ignatowski as he gives a rundown on the rise in the popularity of serial killer documentaries and true crime stories.

Jeff shares the differences between a serial killer versus a spree killer, the triggers for a serial killer, and gives his opinion on who is the most overrated serial killer. He also discusses his card game KILLERS, a mix of cards with a traditional role-playing game, that is fun and educational. Plus, we find out if flannel is the go-to serial killer look.

The cryptids are wild this week as Wes and Chad Harlan host medium and paranormal researcher Stephanie Bingham. Stephanie presented When Monsters Attack: Exploring the Strange History of Cryptids in Kentucky for our Scarefest convention goers and she has some wild stories to share.

Stephanie discusses a little bit of what she knows about cryptozoology, tells what drew her into the paranormal side of history, and shares her most surprising story. It’s a doozy. How can a show go wrong when your topics include the Pope Lick Monster and mermaids in the Ohio River valley, and asks the question of why there are so many stories tied to caves in Kentucky?

Plus, you’ll want to stick around for Joe Lewis’ insightful analysis of the 2022 remake of the horror classic HELLRAISER. Proceed with caution, this review just might tear your soul apart.

The Council Post Convention SF2022 E34

With Scarefest 14 in the rearview mirror, the tired but triumphant Council gather from their secret locations around the state to share their collective thoughts on this year’s Scarefest and all the great events tied to it.

The Council dishes out the details on the logistical nightmares that can arise during a convention, share a little inside information on how ticketing prices and packages are decided upon, and give a hearty thanks to all who came. Little known fact, many attendees had never previously been to a convention. Plus, there is a little bragging on the Robert England line building format.

And don’t forget to check out Joe Lewis’ review of the horror thriller BARBARIAN. It received great critical ratings but is it overrated? Odds are Joe has a little bit to say about that.
